JANUARY AUSTRALIA DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE IN COMO Sunday 26th. From 1.00pm. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF TIME TO 1.00pm. Updated 8 June 2024 POOL SWIM ON SUNDAY 9 JUNE CANCELLED We have had to cancel this event due to a power cut, sorry. Updated 29 April 2024 CHANGE TO WINTER POOL SWIM We have brought this function forward by a week to avoid Mothers' Day. Updated 7 February 2024 CHANGE TO WARNBRO SWIM We will have lunch at a nearby pub as our BBQ venue is not available, sorry. Updated 23 October 2022 CHANGE TO WARNBRO SWIM We have a scheduling issue with our usual Swim date on the 2nd Sunday of each month. So for November only, we have moved it to the first Sunday instead. The November Swim at Warnbro Beach is on Sunday the 6th. Updated 10 April 2022 CHANGE TO WARNBRO SWIM The weather is looking a bit variable this morning, so it's up to you if you want to try going down to Warnbro. We will see everyone for lunch in Orelia from midday. Updated 5 March 2022 COVID INFORMATION The WA Government has enacted Stage 2 Health orders that include a limit on numbers at private residences as follows:
So this means we can have up to 50 people at a Warnbro Swim at the beach, but only 10 people (including the hosts) at a function in a member’s home. The Club has put some arrangements in place to assist members and visitors to decide for themselves if they want to attend Phoenix Functions at private venues. The intent is to make the process transparent such that members will know:
As we are not a Government nominated venue we cannot require anyone to show their Vaccination Certificate, but we can ask them and trust their honesty. If guests refuse to confirm they are fully vaccinated, then we will have to assume that they are not vaccinated and the hosts’ wishes will need to be followed. For all functions, the following measures will be in place:
We hope that everyone understands the reason for this process. Updated 12 January 2022 TIME CHANGE FOR COMO BBQ & POOL PARTY Just a small change to the start time. From 2.00pm. Updated 3 July 2021 POOL SWIM HAS BEEN CANCELLED Due to the requirement to wear a mask indoors either this weekend, or next, we regret that this function has been cancelled. Updated 23 April 2021 COMO VILLAGE FETE HAS BEEN CANCELLED The 3-day lockdown announced today means that we are not allowed to hold this function tomorrow. The next Club function will therefore be a pool swim on Sunday 2nd May. Updated 5 February 2021 CHANGE TO WARNBRO SWIM The weather on Sunday 7th February is looking great for our garden, but a dead loss for the beach. So the Swim planned for Sunday 7th February has been postponed to Saturday 13th February. Sunday is Valentine’s Day obviously so we have avoided that day. However as we will still be required to wear masks (and nothing else). A BBQ lunch in Orelia from 12.00pm midday is still possible, but please watch for an update next week once we see how things are. NANNUP WEEKEND GETAWAY CANCELLED We regret to announce that this event, due to start on Friday 19th March, has been cancelled by the venue. Given the current COVID uncertainties it has been decided not to book an alternative holiday home. Updated 25 January 2021 CHANGE TO WARNBRO SWIM It does not look like an ideal summer’s day tomorrow, but still OK for the beach in the morning with the temperature climbing to 26°C. Sunny with light winds becoming south-westerly 20 to 30 km/h in the middle of the day. So there will be time for a swim, a walk up the beach and maybe a bit of sand sculpturing and Petanque. However it seems most likely that it will not be suitable for a beach BBQ. So we will adjourn to Chris & Ivor’s home for lunch. Members, please join us for a FREE BBQ sausage sizzle lunch from 12.00pm midday, but if you are not coming to the beach then please text Ivor just to be sure that we are NOT going to stay on the beach. Cutlery & plates supplied but if you have plastic glasses for wine etc. please bring them. We will have rolls, lettuce and coleslaw, sausages and Wagyu sliders (mini-burgers). If you want to bring anything else, that is up to you. Updated 9 January 2021 JANUARY POOL SPORTS CARNIVAL Sunday 17th. From 1.30pm. Location: Como. Sorry, our host is marooned in Queensland, or will have to quarantine if he manages to get back to WA, so this event is cancelled/postponed for now. Updated 12 December 2020 CHANGE TO WARNBRO SWIM Due to the poor weather forecast for tomorrow (Sunday 13th) we may not be on the beach in the morning. It's up to members to make their own assessment on the day. The forecast for Warnbro is for 22°C, 60% - 80% chance of light rain and a westerly wind at 27km/h all morning. We will have a BBQ Lunch from midday in Orelia however. Updated 24 June 2020 CHANGE TO GUILFORD PICNIC Due to the uncertain weather for Sunday 28th June we have changed this function to a pub lunch. Updated 25 March 2020 PHOENIX RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS (2) Due to the new Government Regulations and Guidelines circulated yesterday and this morning the Phoenix Committee has decided to cancel all social functions until July. Specific regulations relating to movement between regions of WA mean we are not able to offer the Bush Camping Getaway. We are also strongly encouraged not to make trips outside the home unless it is essential, nor to hold private gatherings. The advice includes the following from the PM "Australians should stay at home, unless shopping for essentials, travelling to and from work - where you cannot work from home, going to school and exercising. Keep visitors to your home at a minimum. In outdoor spaces do not congregate in groups. " We will continue to keep you up to date during this ever-changing situation. Keep well and stay safe. Updated 22 March 2020 PHOENIX RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to advise all members that the Committee has put some measures in place to ensure that you and your family remain safe during these uncertain times. We have decided to postpone all our indoor functions at this time due to the inability of some members’ homes to conform to the social distancing measures from the Government regarding indoor gatherings. However, we will endeavour to organise some outdoor functions in either April or May dependent on the weather. If these functions do go ahead, the following measures will be in place 1. Practice hand hygiene etiquette and respiratory etiquette (i.e. cough into your elbow and contain any sneezes in tissues) at all times. 2. Please avoid all physical contact including handshaking, hugs etc. 3. If you are not well, please do not attend any of the functions. 4. Only bring food and drinks for yourselves, do not share. We will continue to keep you up to date during this ever-changing situation. Keep well and stay safe. Updated 9 February 2020 WARNBRO FREE BEACH DAY PLEASE NOTE: THIS FUNCTION IS ON Sunday 9th February. Even though there is likely to be some wind up to 20km/h the Warnbro Swim will still proceed. We have 2 wind breaks. If we have to leave very early then there is time for coffee in Rockingham before lunch in Orelia. We have snags and buns left over from Australia Day (they've been in the freezer) so they will be available at lunchtime. Updated 7 November 2019 WARNBRO FREE BEACH DAY PLEASE NOTE: THE DATE OF THIS FUNCTION HAS BEEN CHANGED Saturday 9th November. Due to the weather forecast we have brought the Sunday Warnbro Swim forward to Saturday to take advantage of the much better temperature and less chance of rain. Last year we were rained off, or the weather was very average for some of our Swims, so we are taking no chances this year. Hope this doesn't spoil anyone's weekend. Updated 13 July 2019 WINTER POOL SWIM PLEASE NOTE: THIS FUNCTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED Sunday 14th July. Please accept our apologies but the Swim has been cancelled by the owners. We’re not sure if there is a problem with the pool but at this stage we believe that this will only affect the July Swim. Updated 12 June 2019 JUNE PRESIDENTIAL BIRTHDAY BBQ PLEASE NOTE: THIS FUNCTION HAS CHANGED LOCATION Sunday 16th June. From 12.00pm. Location: Beeliar. Cost: Cost $15 visitor couple entry. A birthday celebration at our President's home (as the weather is too cold for a BBQ in the park). Bring something for the BBQ, plus a salad, drinks etc. There will be Cake! Please phone or e-mail our hosts to let them know you are coming. Updated 14 April 2019 WARNBRO FREE BEACH DAY The weather is not looking too good for this morning at Warnbro. It is expected to be cloudy with 30% chance of rain, maximum 22 degrees and winds 20-30km/h. So we will give the beach a miss for today, sorry. See you for a lunchtime BBQ in Beeliar. Look out for news of a replacement tomorrow. Updated 11 November 2018 WARNBRO FREE BEACH DAY: The weather is not looking too good for this morning at Warnbro, and local experts have suggested that we give the beach a miss for today, sorry. The good news is that Lunch is still on from midday at Orelia. Be sure to text or call or text Ivor to let them know you are coming though. Updated 1 December 2017 INTER-CLUB VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION: We are very sorry to announce that the Phoenix will not be sending a team to compete in the challenge in 2017 due to insufficient players available on the day. Updated 4 May 2017 MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY: We are very sorry to announce that the Mad Hatters Tea Party has been cancelled due to a change in Michael’s work roster. Updated 12 March 2017 WARNBRO FREE BEACH DAY: The weather is still not looking too good for this morning at Warnbro. Increasing likelihood of rain as the morning proceeds with 60% chance of rain by midday. Mostly cloudy with wind SW at 14km/h. Boy, we have not been lucky with our beach day weather this season! However it should get up to 30C so you may decide to go down anyway, but don’t be surprised if there are only a very few on the beach. Some brave Phoenix souls will be there from 9.30am, but it may be only for an hour if conditions are not good. The good news is that Lunch is still on from midday at Orelia. Be sure to text or call Ivor to let them know you are coming though. Updated 11 February 2017 WARNBRO FREE BEACH DAY: The weather is still not looking the best for tomorrow at Warnbro. But as we have discovered on previous visits, it can sometimes surprise us with a good day. So you may decide to go down anyway, but don’t be surprised if there are only a few people on the sand. However, the good news is that the lunchtime BBQ is definitely on. If you want to come for lunch please remember to text or call Michael. |
